About the Conclave

The international adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in 2015 marked a historic commitment to achieving a more equitable, inclusive, and environmentally sustainable world. Central to this agenda are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, which provide an integrated framework for addressing global challenges such as poverty, inequality, climate change, and health disparities. For India, these goals are not merely global obligations but an essential roadmap for national development and societal transformation.

The Social Science Conclave 2026 on "Inclusive Development, Social Justice, and Climate Resilience" to be held at Vidyasagar University on September 8–9, 2026, seeks to critically examine India's current position in achieving the SDGs while identifying actionable pathways for their effective realization. It aims to engage with the "reality" of persistent structural inequalities, regional disparities, gender gaps, climate vulnerabilities, and post pandemic recovery challenges that continue to shape India's development trajectory.

At the same time, the conclave emphasizes 'realization' through innovative, evidence-based, and collaborative approaches. It will bring together scholars, policymakers, practitioners, and civil society actors to foster interdisciplinary dialogue and generate policy-relevant insights. Key thematic areas of the event include Poverty and Inequality, Health, Nutrition and Well Being, Education, Gender and Climate Change. By facilitating knowledge exchange and multi-stakeholder engagement, the conclave intends to bridge the gap between research and policy, strengthen institutional capacities, and promote region-specific solutions. The outcomes are expected to contribute to more informed policymaking and grassroots implementation strategies. Ultimately, the academic platform underscores that India's progress is pivotal to global SDG success and that a coordinated, inclusive, and context sensitive approach is essential for translating global commitments into tangible societal outcomes.

Conclave Objectives
  • To critically analyse India's progress and shortcomings across selected SDGs, with particular emphasis on SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) and SDG 4 (Quality Education).
  • To examine the intersecting dimensions of poverty, malnutrition, gender inequality, and climate vulnerability within India's diverse social arrangement.
  • To identify regional disparities in SDG attainment and understand the structural factors underlying these disparities.
  • To facilitate interdisciplinary dialogue that can facilitate social science research along with policy formulation.
  • To develop actionable, context-sensitive strategies for inclusive and sustainable development, especially for marginalized and vulnerable sections of society.

Target Participants

The event is open to academicians, research scholars, students, working professionals and anyone interested to contribute towards sustainable development.
